L’Urban Trekking sta prendendo piede nelle città di tutto il mondo. Due Pontelandolfesi hanno lavorato insieme per creare una guida turistica per questo borgo medievale che porta il trekking urbano ad un’altro livello. L’autrice, Midge Guerrera e la traduttrice, Annarita Mancini hanno pubblicato “Una caccia al tesoro italiana”; la ricerca degli stemmi di Pontelandolfo”. Questa guida fornisce ai lettori indizi per scoprire piccole opere d’arte nascoste in tutto il villaggio. Può essere un gioco di squadra, con escursionisti che si sfidano a vicenda per trovare il maggior numero di stemmi o per dare uno sguardo meditativo e lento nella loro camminata.
Secondo l’autore, Midge Guerrera – “Non è la solita guida turistica”. Trascorro molto del mio tempo a scrivere un blog “Nonna’s Mulberry Tree”, su come sia la vita in un piccolo paese italiano, mi serviva però una motivazione per percorrere il centro storico del paese. La ricerca degli stemmi è stato un ottimo incentivo per passeggiare nella parte antica del paese ed avere un assaggio della vita che conducevano i miei avi.
Annarita Mancini ha osservato che avere gli indizi scritti sia in inglese che in italiano non solo rende il libro utile a più persone, ma è un ottimo modo per esplorare una nuova lingua. Le dimore storiche di Pontelandolfo recano uno stemma di famiglia, uno stemma araldico, su una lapide murale tridimensionale chiamata Lo stemma.
Alla domanda su come il duo abbia avuto l’idea del libro, Midge Guerrera ha detto che ci è voluto davvero un villaggio per creare l’opera. Un giorno, scrivendo nella Biblioteca di Pontelandolfo, scoprì una pila di piccoli opuscoli blu sbiaditi chiamati Stemmi gentilizi a Pontelandolfo scritti dai ricercatori/autori Litterio Villari e Pia Piacquadio. Con una donazione alla biblioteca, acquistò un opuscolo e accompagnata da Maria Vittoria Albini corse fuori dal palazzo alla ricerca di uno stemma. Gli storici locali Carmine Fusco e Antimo Albini hanno contribuito al progetto leggendo la bozza e aggiungendo frammenti di tradizioni locali. I residenti di Pontelandolfo Mariann Prigioni e Jeff Millard hanno avuto il compito di seguire gli indizi per vedere se si potevano davvero trovare tutti gli stemmi. Urban Trekking is happening in cities across the world. Two residents of Pontelandolfo (BN) have worked together to create a tourism guide for this medieval village that brings urban trekking to a different level. Author, Midge Guerrera and translator, Annarita Mancini have published An Italian Treasure Hunt; the Quest for the Crests of Pontelandolfo. This guidebook provides readers with clues to unearth tiny pieces of art hidden throughout the village. It can be a team sport with trekkers challenging each other to find the most crests or a slow meditative look and walk.
According to author Midge Guerrera, “This is not your typical tour guide. Even though I spend a lot of time here blogging, as Nonna’s Mulberry Tree, about life in a small Italian town, I needed a reason to wend my way through the ancient alleys. My search for the crests was a great incentive to walk through the old part of town and get a sense of what life was like for my ancestors.”
Annarita Mancini noted that having the clues written in both English and Italian not only make the book useful to more people but is an excellent way to explore a new language. Historic houses in Pontelandolfo bear a family crest, a heraldic coat of arms, on a three-dimensional wall plaque called Lo stemma.
When asked how the duo came up with the idea for the book, Midge Guerrera mentioned that it really took a village to create the work. One day writing in the Pontelandolfo Library, she discovered a stack of faded little blue pamphlets called Stemmi gentilizi a Pontelandolfo written by researchers/authors Litterio Villari and Pia Piacquadio. With a donation to the library, she bought a pamphlet and accompanied by Maria Vittoria Albini raced out of the building in search of a crest.
Local historians Carmine Fusco and Antimo Albini assisted in the project by reading the draft and adding bits of local lore. Pontelandolfo residents Mariann Prigioni and Jeff Millard had the trekking task of following the clues to see if one could really find all the crests. Now, local visitors to Pontelandolfo can get a copy of An Italian Treasure Hunt; the Quest for the Crests of Pontelandolfo and also do some urban trekking.
