Pontelandolfo. on the eartern blank of the Volturno where it turn, northward. lles In thee fold of hills between that stream and the Tammaro river which flows In a parallel direction, and Is about six milesi north of one bend of the Calore river!
The capture of PontelandoUùlfo placed the allies astrlde an arterial highway which extends westward to the coast and which must be defended strongly if the Germans are to prevent the flanking of their Volturno line.
In the drive northward the fifth army gained control of nwedge of territory In which the towns of Campolattaro, Fragneto, Reino, Casalduni and Pescolamazza were captured.

Pontelandolfo. sul primo vuoto del Volturno dove gira, verso nord. Nella piega delle colline tra quel ruscello e il fiume Tammaro che scorre in una direzione parallela, ed è circa sei miglia a nord di una curva del fiume Calore!
La cattura di Pontelandolfo pose gli alleati su di un’autostrada arteriosa che si estende verso ovest fino alla costa e che deve essere difesa fortemente se i tedeschi dovessero impedire il fianco della loro linea Volturno.
Durante il viaggio verso nord il quinto esercito ottenne il controllo del territorio in cui furono catturati i comuni di Campolattaro, Fragneto, Reino, Casalduni e Pescolamazza.
